The co-founder of one of Toronto's most revered bakeries has passed away, according to a statement from his family.

Born in 1945, Natale Bozzo started SanRemo Bakery in 1969 with his brothers before becoming the sole owner of the bakery in the '90s.

Natale's family announced the tragic news in a Facebook post on the SanRemo Bakery page.

They said that he battled COVID-19 for six weeks before the family said goodbye.

"He fought very hard. He was in good health prior to this," wrote the family.

Natale Bozzo moved to Canada when he was 15 years old, his family said, before starting the popular bakery and turning it into a family business that has sustained itself for two generations.

The post announcing the news had received over 1,500 reactions and nearly 1,000 comments by the time of writing.

"This will no doubt be an inexplicable time of grieving for our family," the post said. "We thank you all for your support and wishes during this time."

"He said the secret of baking was to put a pinch of love into everything, and we’ll be missing that pinch in ways we can’t describe."
